G4M&O Inaugural blitz

26/06/2017Posted by Paddy Rice

With the support of Belfast City Council and weeks of "Light" training sessions Éire Óg Ladies played their first match on Saturday night.  Lamh Dhearg had invited the ladies to take part in their G4M&O Inaugural blitz.  The girls were petrified going up to Hannahstown having not played a match before apart from 1 or 2 younger girls. The whistle was blown and of they went scrambling for the ball.  The opposition won the first breaking ball but the girls quickly adjusted to the fast tempo of the game and got a score for the Ógs. It lifted the whole team and point by point we increased the tally. At the end of the 1st third we were a couple down but the girls spirits were sky high.  Lamh Dhearg had played in a couple of blitzes and their experience was starting to show.  As they took some fine points from far out.  However the Ógs hadnt finished and fought their way back by taking some great frees and a couple of goals up front.

In the end Lanh Dhear's experience won them the points but our Mothers and Others spirits remained high.  Well done ladies.  Brilliant craic was had by both teams and a big thanks must go to Lamh Dhearg for their hospitality and supplying the medals on the day.
