U12 Hurlers to Feature during Antrim NHL Match

3/29/2013Posted by Ciaran Grant

Brid Og U12 hurlers have been invited to play a mini game against St Ergnat’s Moneyglass at half time during the NHL match between Antrim and Offaly at Casement Park on 31st March. This is a great opportunity for our young hurlers to play in Antrim’s HQ and experience the big-match atmosphere. It also enhances the growing reputation of the Ogs and is testament to the hard work put in by Eire Og coaches and players, along with their St Brigid’s counterparts. Hopefully, there will be plenty of Ogs in the crowd to cheer them on.

A Busy Time for the Hurlers

3/25/2013Posted by Darren Hamill

Eire Og's juvenile hurlers have just completed a very busy pre-season. At U8, U10 and U12 level the Ogs have competed in various competitions over the last couple of months. These included the Pat Rice Tournament, North Antrim League, County Down Indoor games, U10 Ulster Provincial tournament, South Antrim Go Games and South West Antrim airbourne indoor games as well as an U12 friendly game against Glenavy. Highlights of the games were of course our U10s getting to the final of the North Antrim League although ultimately they got beat by a strong Slaughtneil, our P3 and P4s coming third in the Pat Rice tournament and also lining out a team in the Provincial games in Magherafelt.

Remarkably, the Ogs have competed against over 40 clubs from 6 counties within Ulster and of course these games will only develop our players. There were also different formats for each of these competitions with the North Antrim league being ground rules, the County Down games, full rules and the SW Antrim airbourne games awarding points for skills.

Thanks to all the organisers for the games these include David and Ciaran (Pat Rice), Owen (North Antrim), Micky (County Down), Tom (SW. Antrim), Kieran (South Antrim) and Kevin (Provincial). Finally of course we could do take part in these games without our coaches John, Gerard, Ciaran, David, Tara, Gavin and Darren. A special word of thanks to the parents for their dedication in getting their kids to many venues throughout Belfast, Co Antrim and beyond. Their fuel bills must have been very high as on several occasions we had to be in two venues on the one day. Also, many thanks to our players who hurled brilliantly, achieving some notable results over some very distinguished hurling clubs, while still playing each game in a very sporting manner.
