Saturday 25th April St Agnes Football Blitz

Eire Og brought three teams to compete in a football blitz hosted by the Aggies.  There was an u8 boys team, u8 girls team an u6 team.  They competed against Colin Gaels, St Agnes and St Teresa's.  It was great to see 30 kids representing the club.  This was the first time the club has fielded a girls team and they competed very well against all boy teams.  The girls also had a match against Colin Gaels girls which they won easily with all the girls managing to get on the score sheet. The u8 boys won all their matches and played some great football.  In fact the u8 boys hardest match was against our u8 girls.  This was a very close contest with the boys just shading it.  The u6s had great fun in their matches and it was encouraging to see 14 kids at this age group, with kids from nursery up to p2 playing.

It was great to see some kids playing their first football match for the club and a big well done to Anna M, Christian, Leo, Corey, Daniel H, Cora, Finn, Darragh, Niall, And Conor.  A word of thanks Paddy, Kevin, Chris, Alan, Conor, Paul, Deano and Stephen who helped out with the Teams and all the parents who came along to support.

Girls football has really taken off and in total there were 10 girls playing at the various age groups. We would ask that if there are any girls out there who are interested in playing to contact Paddy Rice 07841383222 or Kevin Meenan 07739128449.

P4/P3 Go Games

11/10/2014Posted by Christopher Duffy

On Saturday 11 October 2014 our P3/P4s - Fintan, Daniel, Darragh, Cormac, Ronan and Liam took part in the first Go Games 6 a side football at Andersonstown Leisure Centre.
These games are great and an opportunity for competition and fun.

First up were Rossa. Excellent defending from Cormac and Ronan denied Rossa some scoring chances, whilst Fintan and Liam performed admirably in midfield. Daire showed tremendous pace to come through and claim a few scores for the young Ogs.

The next game, paired the boys against a competitive Ardoyne team.  With the weekly Saturday morning training paying dividends for the Ogs, they put in a very credible performance with Daniel doing brilliantly in goals, Daire up front, Liam and Fintan strong in midfield with Cormac and Ronan showing great effort and promise in defence. A close encounter ensued with Eire Og displaying great skill.

The final game which really saw Eire Og in their stride and playing as we know they can was against Sarfields. They were certainly up for the challenge and the contest was evenly matched.
Fintan was solid in goals as were Ronan and Daniel in midfield. Daire again found the net on a few occasions with both power and speed as did Daniel and Ronan.

The boys deserve credit for the effort and commitment shown in all three games, never giving up and chasing every ball. Their vision and understanding of the game and development of fundamental skills continues to show great improvement.

Eire Og U8s v Lagmore U8s

29/09/2012Posted by Greg Toner

Eire Og welcomed Lagmore to Woodlands. U8 coach Ciaran divided the pitch into three zones ensuring all of the players got the opportunity to get a touch of the ball. Our young players gave an excellent account of themselves throughout. Jude made an excellent debut in goal with his long kick outs and safe handling of the ball. Alanna, Eve, Katie and Sophia were constantly alert to everything going around them. David was very impressive on his debut getting straight into the heart of the action. Conall scored a great point from a free; Aidan and Luke were busy in the middle of the park. Conor made a number of excellent clearances out of defence while Georgia and Alex worked tirelessly throughout.
It was a great contest which Lagmore just edged in terms of the score. Mentors, Greg and Jacqui, worked hard on the line encouraging the children and making sure there were regular substitutions to ensure everyone got game time. At the final whistle the teams lined up and shook hands. All agreed it was a very evenly matched contest with both teams showing skill and endeavour. We look forward to welcoming Lagmore back to Woodlands.
