Feile Semi-final

12/03/2016Posted by Admin

The u14 footballers lost by the bare minimum after extra time in their feile match vs Gort Na Mona today. Indecision from a late free and a questionable refereeing decision prevented the ogs from sealing victory in normal time. The whole team performed admirably in heavy conditions with Brendan Murray-Lopez and Andrew McLean dominating around the middle of the park. Sean Murray-Lopez, Connla McCarthy and Mattie Morgan showed well up front against a well organised Gort side. Diarmuid Molloy and Matthew Cummings kept Gort scoreless for long periods with some resolute defending. Special mention to u12s, Declan and Conall McGibbon, who made their u14 debut today. Man of the match for the ogs was Brendan Murray Lopez who carried the ball superbly under intense pressure.

Final score Eire Og 0-4 Gort Na Mona 0-5

All in all the Ogs, shorn of several key players, were incredibly unlucky and can be proud of their efforts. The talent is undoubtedly there and if the commitment levels are upped the Ogs can be a match for anybody this season.

 Eire og\st Agnes 3-9. St malachys 2-6
Eire og under 14s progressed to the quarter finals of the FR Mullan cup following a six  point win over St Malachys. The margin of victory should have been much greater had it not been for some poor shooting and shot. Selection in the first half. On at least 10 occasions shots fell tamely into the st mals keepers hands. He was the busiest player on the pitch.
Despite the poor shooting the aggies og combination played some excellent possession with Jar lath Devlin and Ronan Donnelly in superb form at midfield and Conor erskine and brendan moen running ragged at half forward.  With four players out through injury and no shows the team relied on under 12's vinny Robinson and diarmuid duffy to make up our numbers. Both had an excellent game and certainly held their own against a much bigger opposition
All in all the combined ogs aggies team played some excellent possession football and all players gave 100 per cent commitment - no more so than Donal Mackin who topped of  his game with a superb point. Shooting will however have to improve significant if we are ti beat our next round opponents , Division 1 side St Teresas

U14 Football: All county Feile final at casement

15/05/2013Posted by Ciaran

Final score: St Agnes 0-3 Moneyglass 0-6.

A great day in Casement park for the All county final. We were aware that Moneyglass had one particularily big guy who scored the majority of their scores. A key task was to stop this threat.
In the first half we played with a breeze towards the A'town road end. From the start we dominated possession and for long periods kept them in their own half. Some excellent football was played.
Moneyglass made a few breaks up the pitch and always targetted the big fella who was positioned at full forward. Ronan Donnelly did an excellent job of stopping that threat.
The first half ended 0-2 to 0-1. This was very disappointing following our dominance, but we spurned too many chances.
The second half started well for us and we got the first score from a free kick. However the breeze was now working in Moneyglass favour and had actually picked up a bit. They found it easy to kick long balls into our half, where we worked hard to get it out.
Moneyglass kept the ball in our half for long periods of time. The defence did very well to limit the scoring with Jack being called into action on a number of occassions. However a number soft frees given against us eventually resulted in Moneyglass turning around the game. The big fella was an excellent free taker off both left and right foot.
We did have a great opportunity towards the end of the game when Brendan Mohan beat 2 defenders and was determined to finish with a goal. However he was taken down from behind, a cynical foul which the Moneyglass team had used a number of times. We were unable to convert the resultant free, but we ended the game in an attacking style.
Looking back the guys were very disappointed. A few decisions our way and missed opportunities...what could have been. I know that spectators felt that we played the better and more attractive football. We will definitely fancy ourselves to beat them given another opportunity.
Standout performer on the day Ronan Donnnelly for his dominance over the big fella.
