SW Antrim P3/P4 Blitz

02/05/2015Posted by Ciaran Grant

P4/P3 SW Antrim Blitz
Venue: Tir Na Nog, Randalstown
Date: 2nd May 2015
The P4/P3 team travelled to Randalstown to play in the latest SW Antrim indoor blitz.
The first match was against the host club, Tir Na Nog. Although, Brid Og had the majority of possession the Tir Na Nog keeper made a few good saves to keep Brid Og out. Brid Og did eventually manage a couple of scores, though Tir Na Nog came back at them with goals of their own. Brid Og rallied again to get another couple of goals and come away with a narrow victory by 4-2.
After this sticky start, Brid Og then put on a masterclass with comprehensive victories over Moneyglass, Latharna Og and Creggan.
All seven kids played very well. Techin was very sharp in front of goal and among his numerous goals were two where he flicked the ball between his legs to find the net. I think we will have to name that move ‘the Techin’. Liam had got out of his sick bed to play, but still managed several goals. Conor, James K, Oisin and Donncha got scores from all over the pitch. Donncha scoring from a long range free was very impressive. James S, freed from his usual defensive role also managed to get scores when he played higher up the field.
Brid Og were by far the best team playing in this blitz with all the kids playing displaying impressive skills and the team performing well in the full rules games. There were many comments from the organisers and the other coaches about the skill level of the Brid Og kids.

SW Antrim P3/P4 Blitz

21/03/2015Posted by Ciaran Grant

Seven Brid Og P4s and P3s travelled to Randalstown to play in a blitz organised by SW Antrim. The regular players Oisin, Donncha, James K, James McC, Conor and Liam were joined by Luighseach. Conor had taken a knock to the hand at an earlier football match so he sat out the first match. Besides that all the players got to play the full 5 matches. At the end of the games the team had won all 5 of their games and scored about 40 goals in the process. They had comfortable victories over Creggan, Moneyglass, All Saints and the hosts, Tir Na Nog. A bit of complacency set in at the start of the last game against a 2nd team from Creggan, who took the lead on three occasions. However, Brid Og came strong in the closing stages to pull ahead for the win.
The goals were shared throughout the team. James K, Oisin and Donncha scored with some very good long ranges strikes, but goal of the day must go to Liam who blocked the All Saint’s goalkeeper’s poc out with his neck and saw the ball rebound back into the goal! As the saying goes – they all count.
A pleasing aspect was that a few of the opposing mentors commented on how skillful our players were and their aerial skills were superior to any of their opponents and they dominated every game.
Thanks to Tom for organising the blitz and to the parents of the players for making the trip out of the city and for providing such good support from the sidelines
Brid Og squad: Oisin, Donncha, James K, James McC, ConorMacE, Liam, Luighseach.

S Antrim P4 Go Games

14/03/2015Posted by Ciaran Grant

Fifteen kids played in the P4/P3 Go Games in Hannahstown this morning. It was great to see so many kids turning out to play for Brid Og - despite it being totally freezing up there!

Brid Og formed 2 teams and both teams had comfortable wins against Gort Na Mona and the host club, Lamh Dhearg. There were plenty of goals shared throughout both teams. Even though he arrived late -a special mention for young Conor G, who is only in P2 but still helped himself to a few goals

Brid Og: Ciaran, Liam, Oisin, Donnacha, James K, James S, Conor McK, Ronan, Conor G, Daire, Caomhin, Che, Aodhan, Matthew, Conal
