U8 Go-Games at Lamh Dhearg

30/06/2012Posted by Ciaran Grant

Although the U10s kept stealing our players (!), the U8s had a successful day on the mountain.

The Ogs started well with a 2-1 victory over St Paul's Belfast. Pearse H scored both goals including a remarkable one from a long-range sideline ball. The second game was a much tougher one. Unfortunately, Conor C was kept busy in goals and St Enda's Belfast recorded a comfortable win. However the Ogs saved the best for last. David and Sophia both grabbed hat-tricks in a big win over Lamh Dearg Belfast. Oran, Liam and our youngest player, Luke completed the scoring in a 9-1 victory.

U6 and U8 Hurling Go Games

09/06/2012Posted by D. Hamill and C. Grant

U6 and U8 Hurling Go Games
Venue: Sarsfield's and St Paul's
Date: 9th June 2012

Eire Og's U6 and U8 hurlers continued their great form when they competed in a blitz jointly
organised by St Paul's and Sarsfield's. At U8 level the teams competing were Eire Og,
Saint Paul's(3 teams), Sarsfield's, Saint Brigid's and Gort Na Mona.
All the U8 matches were played on Sarsfield's pitch whilst the U6 games were hosted by Saint Paul's.

***  U6 Matches  ***

The U6s played matches against St Pauls and two St Brigid's teams.
The young Ogs performed admirably with Zack K getting among the goals.
A powerful, long range strike against St Brigids being particularly notable.
Liam also grabbed a good goal against St Brigids despite picking up a nasty
thumb injury. There were many strong defensive clearances by Conor C and some
tough tackling by Luke. A special mention is needed though, for Alannah who
played very well on her Eire Og debut.

Eire Og 2-0 Saint Brigid's 1-0
Our first U8 match was against Saint Brigid's. The Og's were strong in the tackle and Sophia was
getting good possession in midfield and was able to deliver the sliotar to Pearse and Gerard in
the forward line. The Og's got 2 goals with Pearse getting both final touches. Our back line of
Alex and Aodhan were helping Conlan in nets but unfortunately our opponents got a goal of their own.

Eire Og 1-1 Sarsfield's 0-0
Our next match was against host club Sarsfields and the teams positions were rotated. Gerard was
asked to do a marking job in midfield and duly obliged. He even got on the score board himself
when he got a point from the tightest of angles from the left hand side touchline. Oran and Caolan
ran the channels up front but the Og's got their goal when Pearse moved forward from his defensive
duties even though his mentor was asking him to return to the back line...!

Eire Og 1-0 Saint Paul's B 1-0
Aodhan now took up responsibility between the posts with Jack and Gerard protecting him in defence.
Sophia was in mid with David and Conlan up front. This was a very tight game but the Og's had the
majority of the possession and took the lead through a well taken free from Conlan. Unfortunately
there was still enough time for St Paul's to move the sliotar up the pitch and get an equaliser.

Eire Og 0-1 Gort Na Mona 0-0
Gort na Mona had 10 players like ourselves and therefore all our players were able to get a game.
This was a very start stop affair due to the extra numbers but the Og's won with the only score
of the game when Pearse knocked the sliotar over the bar from distance.

Eire Og 0-0 Saint Paul's A 2-3
Our last game was against Saint Paul's A team but unfortunately our numbers were reduced to 8 as
Conlan had to retire as he had taken a knock in a previous match and Sophia had to leave early.
The Og's lined out with Jack in nets, Caolan and Alex in defence. Our midfield were the trio
of David, Gerard and Pearse with Aodhan and Oran playing up front.
Saint Paul's were the best team on show on the day and got some great scores from midfield and
their forward line. Eire Og had good possession themselves but our team were put under a lot of
pressure and Saint Paul's came away easy victors.

I would like to thank both Sarsfield's and St Paul's for organising this event.
Again our youngest players got a lot of game time and competed at a very high level.
I would again like to thank our parents for their support from the sidelines and finally
I would like to mention when Aodhan was doing nets in the Saint Paul's B match he handed
me one of his milk teeth that had came loose during the game and had fallen out.
It reminded me of games before helmets were compulsory and Good Luck Aodhan with the tooth fairy!!!

Well done the Og's!

St Pauls Go Games

02/06/2012Posted by Ciaran Grant

St Pauls U8 Go Games   :   Colin Glen Multi Sports Centre   :    2 June 2012

Eire Og were invited to the second week of Go Games organised by St Paul's at the new 3G pitches at Colin Glen Multi Sports Centre. The games were 5 a side and, thanks to a great turnout, Eire Og were able to field 3 teams.

Before the games officially started the 'A' team played a short practice match against Sarsfield and ran out 2-0 winners with goals from Pearse and Oran. The first proper game in their section ended disappontingly with a defeat against very strong Bredagh team. The Ogs bounced back in their next game when they easily beat St Teresa's by 8 goals to 2. Pearse, Carla and Ruairi shared out the goals. The next match, against St Paul's, was the most competitive. Oran and Pearse again got a goal each, but St Paul's won the game 3 goals to 2. The final match ended in a 1-1 draw against Gort na Mona, with Pearse scoring again. Eire Og had the bulk of possession and chances and can feel unlucky not to have won this game.

Alex was the main goal scorer for the 'B' team as they won 3 out of their 4 games. Bredagh, Gort Na Mona and St Paul's were all defeated. The only blemish was a single goal loss to Sarsfields.

Our youngest players made up the 'C' team and performed admirably winning 2 of their 4 games. Young Zach K and his cousin Adam were among the goals as they recorded victories over St Teresa's and St Paul's 'C'

All the young Ogs worked hard and played very well and the event was enjoyed by all the players. mentors and spectators. It was especially pleasing to see such a large number of kids turn out to play for Eire Og and to see our youngest players go out, be competitive and win against older and bigger opponents.

Thanks goes to the parents for their greatly apppreciated vocal support. A word of thanks also to Tara and Gavin for helping with their respective Eire Og teams today.

Our thanks is also extended to St Pauls for inviting us to the games and organising the matches so well.

We were also joined today by Ruairi and Finn McGarrity who were visiting from their Waterford home. Our thanks goes to these two very talented young men who performed very well for Eire Og today. Any time they want to make the trip from Waterford to come and play for the Ogs they are more than welcome!
