Sarsfields Challenge Games

31/07/2012Posted by Ciaran Grant

Eire Og U8s were invited to play Sarsfields in a friendly match. Due to Sarsfields needing some of their regular U8s for the U10s match the Ogs faced a very young opposing team. To try and make the game a bit more sporting the older Ogs were mainly restricted to goals and defence. Peter and Zach K took up midfield positions with Conor C and Liam in forwards.

Eire Og ran out very comfortable winners with much of the scoring coming from David, backed up with strikes from Conor E and Zach. Though the game was one-sided there were positives to take out of the game. It was encouraging to see some of Ogs lifting the ball and striking from the hand.

David used these skills to add a couple of points to the goals he scored. A long range goal from Zach was also a highlight.

Ardoyne Challenge Games

8 Challenge Match v Ardoyne

Venue: Cricky Pitch Cliftonville Road

Date: 25th July 2012

A short report on last weeks game at Ardoyne. Also Ardoyne put a short report on the match into the Andersonstown News this week.

Eire Og's U8 hurlers were invited to play against Ardoyne at their pitch on the Cliftonville Road. The home team had enough players to field 2 teams and the Og's played a total of 3 matches, each one lasting approx 10 minutes.

The games themselves were played under a mixture of both ground and full rules and it was agreed that each team would play without a goalkeeper. This made the matches exciting and the sliotar was constantly being moved up and down the pitch by both teams. In the end the hosts came away with 2 Wins and 1 Loss.

I would like to thank Peter, Stephen and the other Ardoyne Coaches for arranging the matches and it was great to see the large support on the sidelines for both teams. Finally I would like to thank our players especially our younger ones who competed brilliantly under Full Rules.

Well done to the Og's :   Aaron  Conlan  David  Gerard  Jack  Liam  Oran  Pearse  Zack

Eire Og v St Pauls

05/07/2012Posted by Ciaran Grant

U-6  Report - Tara Baird

Tonight we had a great turnout to play St Pauls and the "little Ogs" played their hearts out.  Clodagh and Ava played a blinder for their first match, with Ava and Peter playing a strong defence.  Connor helped out in goals for 2/3 matches and saved some great goals.  Liam shone in midfield and Zach shone wherever he was.  Alannah had a go in goals with Clodagh at the front, but unfortunately we were unable to score against St Pauls squad this time! Thanks to Gavin for his help and to our parents cheering on the sidelines.

Ogs:  Peter, Ava, Zach, Connor C., Clodagh, Alannah, Liam

U-8  Report – Ciaran Grant

With their recent good form, the U8s came up against what would always be a very stern test against St Pauls. Although the Ogs worked hard and battled to the end, the St Pauls skilled ability to lift the ball into the hand and strike cleanly in the air meant they were able to come away with a comfortable victory. There was an improved second half performance by Eire Og when they got tighter to their men and reduced the effectiveness of the St Pauls striking. The highlight for the Ogs was a super point by Pearse from the sideline.
