Go Games at Andersonstown Leisure Centre

13/10/2012Posted by Tara Baird

Round 1 (13/10/2012)

Thank you to all those parents and children who turned up today for the 1st round of the U8 Go Games. Oran, Conlan, David, Pearse, Sophia, Zach, Meabh, Liam and Alannah.

The young Ogs played 3 matches. They started off winning against Rossa and went on to play well against St Galls but unfortunately lost by a goal. The final match was against St Pauls and despite great efforts by Conlan, Liam and Oran at the front, the Ogs were unable to get a goal. All the young Ogs played brilliantly showing off their teamwork, striking, tackling and good sportsmanship. Special mention for Meabh who played her first matches today. We are looking forward to a busy weekend next weekend when we will play the 2nd round of the tournament in Andersonstown and play at Harlequins on Sunday.

Round 2 (20/10/2012)

Éire Óg had another 3 matches at the U8 Go Games this weekend. The Ógs started with a draw against Lamh Dhearg. Next up was a very strong St Johns side. Conlan pulled off a number of fine saves to keep the Johnnies at bay, but he was finally beaten in the later stages. St Johns added another couple of goals for the victory. The last game aganist Sarsields was also the best game. Both sides gave it their all, and both had many chances to score. Just when it seemed a scoreless draw was going to be the result Sarsfields grabbed a goal right at the death.

The Ógs players today were Oran, Conlan, Conor C, David, Pearse, Sophia, Zach, Liam and Alannah.

Round 3 (27/10/2012)

Éire Óg competed in the third and final weekend of the U8 Go Games this weekend. The first match ended in a narrow defeat against Lamh Dhearg. The Ógs upped the tempo in the second match against St Johns. In a lively game, a couple of goals from Pearse saw Éire Óg into the lead. However, St Johns came back strongly and late goals swung the game in their favour. This was tough on the Ógs as they looked the more likely winners for a long part of the match. The players were asked to make one last big effort for the final match of the Go Games series, against Sarsfields, and they responded well. There were strong performances all round and Pearse scored the winner. David donned the keeper's jersey and pulled off a couple of good saves.

The Ógs players today were Oran, Conlan, Conor C, David, Pearse, Sophia, Meabh, Zach and Liam.

U6 Friendly Blitz

15/09/2012Posted by Ciaran Grant

U6 Friendly Blitz  -  Venue: Musgrave Park  -  Date: 15th September 2012

With no U8 or U10 matches this weekend, it was the turn of the Eire Og U6s to take centre-stage. St Brigids invited our young hurlers and St Endas to Musgrave Park to participate in a mini-blitz. On the day the U6s performed admirably. St Brigids were able to field two teams and Eire Og defeated the first challenge from their hosts by 3 goals to 1. The other St Brigids team were the next opponents. This was a very close contest. Peter, in goals, pulled off a couple of excellent saves and just when it seemed he had almost single-handedly snuffed out the St Brigid's attack an opponent managed to grab a goal for the only score of the game. The young Ogs picked themselves up for the final match against St Endas. Although, they fell behind to an early goal, Eire Og rallied to get a couple of goals ahead. Every time the Ogs seemed to be putting daylight between themselves and their opponents, St Endas hit back. After some entertaining end-to-end action Eire Og ran out winners by 6 goals to 4.

Zach K was in scintillating goal-scoring form. With the exception of a fine goal by Liam against St Endas, Zach K scored all Eire Og's goals today.

There were good performances all round though and all the young Ogs did the job asked of them. A special mention should be made of Eoin who performed very well on his Eire Og debut and to Michael who battled on bravely to the end after picking up a leg injury.

I would like to thank John from St Brigids for inviting us to Musgrave. I would also like to thank our players' parents and family on the sidelines who loudly cheered on our young hurlers.

Lamh Dhearg Blitz

Lamh Dhearg Blitz
Date: 8th September 2012

Eire Og U8 hurlers were invited to a blitz at Lamh Dhearg. Thirteen players were present which meant Eire Og were able to field 2 teams.

Eire Og 1 got off to a slow start when St Gall's ran out comfortable winners in the first match. The Ogs responded well by beating Ardoyne 3-0 in the next match. Pearse got 2 goals and Conlan got the other with a long range strike. St Johns were the opponents in the third and final match. In a tight game St Johns came away with a narrow win.

The younger members of the panel made up the Eire Og 2 team and some were making their debuts for Eire Og. They were up against bigger, older and more experienced opposition so unfortunately they were defeated by Rossa and Ardoyne.
