P4/P3 Pat Rice Tournament
Venue: Falls Leisure Centre
Date: 9th March 2013

The P4s and P3s were back at the Falls Leisure Centre for the last weekend of the Pat Rice tournament. Unfortunately, Glenavy could not field so there was only 1 competitive game to play against St Enda's. Nevertheless, Eire Og rounded off the tournament in resounding fashion by running out comfortable winners over St Enda's. Pearse helped himself to a few goals and there were also a couple of goals for David, Zach and Conor. This left Eire Og in 3rd place in the tournament behind joint winners St Pauls and Lamh Dhearg.

After this 2 friendly matches were played. Zach got 3 of Eire Og's 4 goals in a very entertaining draw with Lamh Dhearg. Zach's goals all came from good, long-range strikes. St Enda's gave some of their younger players a run out in the final match and Pearse was placed in goals, though he didnt stay there for long! Eire Og again had a comfortable win with Conlan and Zach scoring the majority of the goals. Sophia also got on the scoresheet, which was reward for her hard work in all the games. And there was even time for Pearse to get a late goal after sneaking out of goals.

Thanks to David for organising the tournament, to Aiden for refereeing and to Tara and Gavin for their help with the Eire Og team over the 2 weekends. And congratulations to Lamh Dhearg and St Pauls on becoming joint champions.

U8 S Antrim Go Games Games

Venue: Lamh Dhearg

Date: 2nd March 2013

The U8s good form continued at the South Antrim Go Games at Lamh Dhearg. Eire Og's first opponents were St Johns and Sophia was virtually a spectator in goals as the Ogs totally dominated the game. Pearse scored a hat-trick and Zach K add another in a 4-0 win. Next up was Rossa and again Eire Og dominated possession and territory. However, numerous chances were squandered. When it looked like Rossa were going to hang on for a draw Pearse managed to convert one of the chances right at the death to give Eire Og a deserved victory. Sarsfields were the next opponents in what turned out to be a very exciting match. Sophia and Pearse were the scorers in a hard-fought 2-2 draw. The final match was against Ardoyne. Once again Eire Og totally dominated their opponents in a 7-1 victory. Pearse scored 5 goals with Zach K and Sophia getting the others. The score would have been higher except for some good saves by the Ardoyne goalkeeper.

There were good displays all round, with good tackling and striking from all the players. Pearse was in excellent form today and was the stand-out player on display from any of the teams today. He scored 2 goals from sideline cuts which were quite remarkable.

The U8s have played 9 games over the course of the last week, winning 8 of those games and drawing the other. Hopefully, they will be able to continue this good from in the Pat Rice tournament next weekend.

Co Down Indoor Games
Venue: Eddie Irvine Centre
Date: 24th Feb 2013
A busy weekend for the U8s continued with a round of fixtures in the Co Down Indoor Games. After disappointment the previous day in the Pat Rice tournament, the young Ogs bounced back in superb style winning all five of their matches at the Eddie Irvine Centre. Big wins were recorded against young B teams from Sarsfields and St Johns. Tougher opposition was to come, but Eire Og continued to impress as they dominated possession in a 4-0 victory over Gort Na Mona. A strong Portaferry were the next opponents and despite falling behind Eire Og rallied to record a 2-1 victory. The fixtures were rounded off against St Brigids. Again the Ogs dominated possession and came away with a 4-1 win. There were strong performances throughout from the more experienced players, Conlan, David, Pearse and Zach, and all of them got among the goals. They were well backed up by our younger players, Liam and Alannah, with Liam getting good reward by grabbing a couple of goals on the day.
