U8 Go Games

Date : 18th May 2013

Venue: Lamh Dhearg

Eire Og's U8 hurlers continue to lead the way and set the standard in this age group, as they recorded 3 wins out of 3 matches at the U8 Go Games, and did not concede a single score on the day. Games were played in very wet conditions against St Johns, St Endas and Lamh Dhearg.

Against St Johns, Pearse grabbed a couple of goals and Zach K added another in what turned out to be the Ogs most competitive game. A late switch from defence to forwards provided Pearse with an opportunity to score a hat-trick against St Endas. Sophia and David finished off the scoring in a comfortable victory.

David went into goals for the last match against today's hosts and he and the back line of Zach K and Pearse were virtually spectators as Eire Og put pressure on the Lamh Dhearg goal right from the throw in. Sophia and Liam were in a race to see who could get a hat-trick first, with Sophia reaching that target ahead of her young forward partner. Conlan was rewarded for a strong midfield performance when a well-struck shot from half-way nestled in the back of the net.

There were enough players today for a B team to play games against their younger opponents from the other teams present. Victories were recorded over St Johns and St Endas. Jack and Peter were the main goalscorers today and there were good defensive performances from Conor, Zach W and Alannah. Liam joined the team for the game versus St Endas and he and Peter put in powerful midfield performances, covering every inch of the pitch. The highlight was when Liam doubled on the ball to send it high over the bar. Although 'points' weren't counted, the ball rebounded back into play off the fence and Liam followed up his own rebound to set up Jack for a well-taken goal.

Once again Eire Og were impressive all over the pitch. It was pleasing to see so many players turn out in very poor weather conditions and represent their club so well.

Thanks to Kieran McGraw for organising the Go Games and to Lamh Dhearg GAC for hosting and co-ordinating the matches. Thanks to Darren for helping with team selection and to Tara and Gavin for mentoring our younger players in their matches. Finally, thanks again to the parents for standing in rain and cheering on and encouraging our players. Thankfully, the U8s have given their supporters plenty to cheer about in recent weeks.

U8 Go Games

Venue: Lamh Dhearg

Date: 20th April 2013

Eire Og competed in the final week of the Go Games at Lamh Dhearg.

After another superb performance the Ogs emerged unbeaten after the three weeks of the games. Pearse Hamill was away on U10 duty, but the team were told not too worry about that as there would be nobody hogging the ball today. The first game was against a young St Johns 2. The older players were kept on the sidelines, but Eire Og were still too strong against their opponents. Liam grabbed a hat-trick of goals and Peter added another in a 4-1 win. It has to be noted how much these two players have really come of age in the Go Games this year. Next up was Rossa and although Eire Og dominated possession it took a great strike from Zach K to record a 1-0 victory. Teams were increased to 9 a side against Sarsfields and the lack of space was always going to make this a tight match. Neither team scored although Sarsfields had a goal disallowed as their keeper scored direct from a puck-out. The final game was an easy 4-0 win over Gort Na Mona. Again Eire Og dominated and the goals were shared out with Zack, Liam, Sophia and Jack scoring. This was only Jack's second appearance for Eire Og and it was good to see him getting a goal. The highlight of the game though was a ferocious shot from Sophia that rattled off the crossbar and bounced down on the line and out again. Unfortunately, there was no Russian linesman to award a goal that the shot deserved.

Thanks to Kieran McGraw for organising the games and to Gerard Tulley for co-ordinating on the day. Once again there was great support from the parents and the players have given their spectators plenty of cheer about in recent weeks. Eire Og have been one of the stand-out teams at these Go Games. The recent run of form is obviously very pleasing and it is great to see these young kids play such a good standard of hurling. But, it also very encouraging that the players are very good at keeping their positions on the field and doing the job they are assigned. The hard work that has been put in at training over the dark winter nights has really paid dividends. The players, their families and friends can very proud of the U8s achievments in recent weeks. Eire Og abu!

U8 Go Games
Date : 13th April 2013
Venue: Woodlands
The U8s continued their impressive form by stretching their unbeaten run to 19 games after six matches at the Go Games at Woodlands. The first game was against St Johns 2. The opposition were quite young so this was an ideal chance for some of the younger Ogs to get a game and they seized their opportunity. Peter and Liam were particularly impressive in a 3-0 win. Liam scored 2 of the goals and Peter dominated midfield and grabbed the other goal. Darren managed to get another game against St Johns 1 at the same time and again Eire Og were victorious, this time by a 3-1 scoreline. Next up was a tough match against St Pauls, and Eire Og deservedly ran out 2-1 winners with Pearse getting both goals. At the same time the younger Ogs played out a 1-1 draw with Sarsfields. Next up was Gort na Mona and Peter and Zach K scored in a 2-0 win. Space was tight in the final match against Lamh Dhearg as it was 10 a side. A late free from Pearse was enough to get another victory for Eire Og. At the conclusion of the games Eire Og had recorded an impressive 5 wins and 1 draw.
Thanks to Kieran McGraw for organising the Go Games and to Gerard Tully for co-ordinating the matches on the day. Thanks also to Darren, David, Gavin and Tara for their assistance. There was a good crowd watching the matches and again Eire Og's parents provided good support for the players.
