Challenge Match v St Johns

U14 Challenge game v St John's

Date: 19th April 2015

Venue: Corrigan Park

Brid Og's U13 hurlers travelled the short distance to Corrigan Park to play St John's U14 squad. In the first half we give our opposition too much respect and their more skilful players were able to get scores at will.

At half time the players were reminded that they needed to get back to the basics of getting out in front of their markers and trying to contest for the sliotar. In fairness to the team the levels of performance was increased in most of the positions on the pitch and indeed some great link up play from backs through mid to the forward line produced probably the best score of the day. At the final whistle the damage had been done in the first half although we did get some excellent scores in the second half.

Friendly v Ballygalget

U14 Challenge game v Ballygalget
Venue: Ballygalget
Date: 21st March 2015

On a busy weekend for our U13 hurlers we accepted an U14 challenge game against Ballygalget. Unfortunately we could only field 13 players but both teams agreed to play full pitch with each half being an exhausting 30 minutes.

Within minutes of the throw in we knew we were up against a formidable opposition when the players get several scores from midfield and half forward lines. Our opponents were quicker to the ball in a lot of areas around the pitch and they seemed to be very accurate in their striking as their score tally accumulated. Credit to the Og's however at times there was great link up play which resulted in some fantastic scores for ourselves but on the day the Og's were up against a more skilful team who deserved their victory.

I would like to thank Paddy for the invite today and for the refreshments after the game and I wish them all the best in their Feile games. Thanks to our parents for travelling to the peninsula and for their support. Finally well done to our players who tried their best against a very skilful Ballygalget side today.

1st Year Co Down Games

18/01/2015Posted by Darren Hamill

First Year Hurling County Down games
Date: 18th January 2015
Venue: Eddie Irvine Centre

It was the third week of games at the Bangor venue and this signalled the return of action for our first year hurlers. Unfortunately we did not have enough players to field our second team and with Carryduff not fielding a second team as well we were drawn against county down side Bredagh and Belfast sides St Paul's and the Davitts.

The hurling from our team was excellent today. Jack D and young Niall put in a great shift in nets with both of them literally putting their bodies in the way to prevent scoring. Both players also got scores when playing in a forward role. Shane and Padraig were our main dynamos in midfield and both players got several scores each as their striking of the sliotar was excellent today. Both Chris, Luke and Pearse positions were rotated on the day as well with Chris and Pearse getting scores and Luke being unlucky in front of goal as several of his attempts were blocked on the line.

At the end of the 3 scheduled games we had recorded 2 wins against Bredagh and St Paul's and a narrow defeat to the Davitts. If Niall's Poc out goals had counted we may have even  scrapped a draw however the games rules are these scores don't count. There was still time to organise a game against Co Armagh side Middletown. Unfortunately young Niall had to go to play a game which involves a larger ball but the rest of the players put in a excellent shift in a physical tussle and got their third victory for the team on the day.

I would like to thank Conor for organising the games. Thanks to John and Gerard for helping with the team and the parents for travelling and their support on the sideline. Well done to the players who fielded today . Again all the players performances are being raised and these games will certainly help with their development as a hurling player.

Brid Og Panel: Chris, Jack, Luke, Niall, Padraig, Pearse, Shane
