U12 Hurling Development v Ardoyne

Venue: Mallusk Playing Pitches

Date: 27th April 2015

Brid Og's U12 hurlers continued their development league with an away game against Ardoyne at Mallusk. Unfortunately this match did not last the distance as the game had to be postponed due to the awful weather conditions which started as heavy rain with driving wind and finished with hail stones and sleet and we are nearly in the month of May.

Credit must go to all the players who fielded tonight from both teams. When the referee called time on the game the Og's had amassed a score of 3 goals and 5 points to no score and played some excellent hurling in very testing conditions. Thanks to John for sorting the team and to our players parents and family for their support in such awful conditions

U12 Hurling Development v Belfast Saffrons

Venue: St Theresa's

Date: 20th April 2015

Brid Og's U12's second development game was an away match against Belfast Saffrons ( an amalgamation between Davitts and St Theresa's.

On a perfect evening it was great to see 12 players fielding for the team. The rules for this development league include no solo running and a goal scoring a single point whilst a point registers 2 scores so the players were told were possible aim high.

The game itself was a very exciting affair with the Og's having several goal line chances but unfortunately we went in at half time with the saffrons leading 1:2 (5 points) to 1:0 (1 Point). The second half started with several technical changes which immediately resulted in scores for our team and we managed to level the game 1:2 to 3:1 but instead of continuing the momentum towards victory the Saffrons were the only team to get further scores with the final score showing 2:4 (10)to 3:1 (5). This does not tell the whole story as we have several placed frees which on a different day would have went over the black spot and it must be remembered that this is a very young team who have only recently started to train together and the aim of this league is the development of our players through game time.

Thanks to John for helping with the team and preparing them for the game. Thanks to our parental and family support from the sidelines  but unfortunately we could not etch out the victory. Finally well done to the squad who battled well in the second half especially and on another day could have came away with the spoils.

First Year County Down Hurling

Venue: Eddie Irvine Centre

Date: 8th February 2015

Our first year hurlers completed a very busy week for the club when they fielded at the Eddie Irvine Centre in Bangor. Unfortunately due to us only being able to field one team and several other teams not showing up our group only had 2 other teams Middletown and Rossa 2.

Both these games were hotly contested affairs with great skills being shown by either team but the Og's edged out victories in both games. As this finished off the fixture list for our group we tried to get some extra games in the various free pitches which were available. The first game was against Carryduff. The game was again a high scoring affair as both teams played attacking hurling but the Og's added another victory to their tally with some late scoring.

Our next game was against Bredagh. These games are usually tight affairs and today was no different but with Padraig playing excellent in nets and being protected by Gerard and Luke in defence as well as Shane in midfield our young forward line of Niall and Pearse were able to get the scores to give us our fourth victory of the day.

Our final 2 games were against county Down side Ballycran and Rossa 1. In fairness we were out played by 2 stronger teams but the kids were also tiring at this stage as they had now played 4 matches in a row without a break.

I would like to thank Conor for organising these games. Thanks to Gerard for travelling and giving lifts to some of the players. Finally well done to our players. It must be remembered that we only had 3 full first years, 1 P7 and 2 P6's and it is a compliment to them that they were able to produce 4 victories on the day. All our players got scores today but well done to Niall and Gerard who scored from their own half in defensive positions and Luke who got scores against both Rossa teams.
