U12 League v Sarsfields

27/05/2012Posted by Darren Hamill

Sarsfield's  4-6  :  7-4  Brid Og  :  Sarsfield's Pitch  27th May 2012

Brid Og continued their winning form in a hard fought victory at Sarsfield's pitch. Unfortunately Sarsfield's could only field 10 players and therefore there was a larger area for the players to cover in very warm conditions.

As the score board shows this was a very tight match and totally different from our first meeting. Sarsfield's actually managed to get a lead of a point in the second half, but it shows the character in this young team that they were able to regroup themselves and play hurling the correct way under much provocation from their opponents  and this resulted in Brid Og getting their scores to take the well deserved victory.

Credit must go to all the players as they contributed to today's victory in very draining conditions. Apologises to those players who got limited play time today but unfortunately we had double the players that our opponents had and there are plenty of forthcoming matches in the near future at this level starting with our next league match against Saint John's this Thursday 31st May.

Well done Brid Og!

U12 league v St Paul's

20/05/2012Posted by Darren Hamill

U12 Division 1 Hurling League  :  Brid Og 1:6 St Paul's 0:1

Venue: Musgrave Park  :  Date: 20th May 2012.

Brid Og got back to winning ways with a battling performance at Musgrave Park against Saint Paul's. Mentors John and Oliver informed the players before the match commenced how their performances were improving and if they got the basics right St Paul's were there for the taking.

The first score took a while to come but from it the Og's grew in confidence and the midfield partnership of Tom D and Ciaran started to dominate their opponents. Brendan in nets was protected by Connla, Ruairi and Cain with Sean and Niall linking the defence to midfield.

Peter, Ronan and Conor were roaming around the park looking for the sliotar and they provided the majority of the scores. The forward positions were rotated during the game and the players had plenty of chances but found the St Paul's keeper in great form. On another day the Og's dominance could have resulted in more scores but overall it was a great team performance with the skills of catching, lifting and hand pass coming to the fore and again the players have cemented our credentials as a Division 1 team.

U12 Hurling League v Saint Gall's

13/05/2012Posted by Darren Hamill

Venue: Milltown

Date 13th May 2012

Saint Gall's 4-1  Brid Og  1-5

Brid Og's U12 hurlers continued their league campaign against Saint Gall's at their Milltown Pitch. A scrappy first half finished scoreless due to the strong blustery conditions sending the sliotar narrowly wide with Ronan C coming the closest to scoring

The Second half started in a similar fashion with both defences on top but a strong run from a st Gall's player resulted in a goal for the hosts. Again due to the conditions the Og's found it hard to clear their lines and Saint Gall's got a couple of quick scores.

This seemed to kick start the Og's into competing. Ciaran and Tom were winning possession of the sliotar and Rory was now playing in a more advanced role. During the last 10 minutes the sliotar was constantly in the Saint Gall's half and this pressure resulted in great pointed scores from Ronan C and Sean. Rory added to the scoring with a low drive which went narrowly over the bar when I think he was hoping to raise the green flag.

The Og's were also rewarded with a goal when Saint Gall's young keeper walked the sliotar over the line due to pressure from Conor Erskine but unfortunately our revival had started too late and Saint Gall's claimed the victory.

Well done to all the Brid Og players who today again confirmed that we can compete at this level. Over the 2 halves there was not much between the teams and I believe we had the majority of the possession.
