Nipper Quinn Semi-final

Nipper Quinn Semi-Final v Sarsfields

Venue: Sarsfields

Date: 29th September 2013

Brid Og's U12 hurlers booked their place in the Nipper Quinn B Final with a hard fought victory against a combined Sarsfields / St Teresa's team. Our opponents took the lead with a well taken point early in the game against the wind but this was the only time in the game that our hosts would lead. It was essential that we would be leading going into the second half as we were playing with a substantial wind behind us. Ronan scored 3 well taken points with Thomas scoring a great goal to give us a 1:3 to 0:1 lead to half time.

Our team play in the second half was excellent and every player wearing the Brid Og top put in strong performance. Oisin got 2 great goals and Ronan added to his own personal tally with a pointed free. Credit has to go to our opponents who also got 2 goals and a point in the second half and the game was exciting until the final whistle.

Unfortunately we do not know who are opponents are as Lamh dhearg still have to play Gort na mona but hopefully we can repeat our success of 2 years ago. Thanks also to our considerable parental support which helped our players to victory in this semi-final.

U12 South Antrim League v Sarsfields

Venue: Musgrave

Date: 4th August 2014

Our U12 hurlers continued their fine form in the South Antrim League with a high scoring 6:9 to 0:0 victory against a young Sarsfields side. Connla got the majority of the scores but it was great to see Dylan, Jack D and Pearse getting scores as well. As we had 16 players we had 4 substitutes so the players positions were constantly being rotated to give all the players adequate game time and it was also very reassuring that even with all the changes including the whole back lines including the keeper we were still able to record our second clean sheet of the league campaign. Special mention to Adam who played in his U12 league game and to a returning Ronan who played as if he hadn't been away.

Thanks
Thanks to Oliver for refereeing the game and to John D and Gerard for helping with the team selection and changes. Thanks to our players parents who hopefully enjoyed the game in perfect hurling conditions and finally well done to the Og's who continued our winning run in both league and challenge games

All County League

15/06/2013Posted by Darren Hamill

Brid Og's U12 hurlers are currently still unbeaten in Div 2 of the All county league. With wins against the Pearse's, Glenavy and Sean Stinson's already recorded our next match was against Saint Ergnat's Moneyglass a team we had earlier played against during half time of  the national league game between Antrim and Offaly at Casement Park.

Due to the very warm conditions it was decided to spilt the game into 4 x 10 minute quarters so the players could get regular water breaks. In the first quarter the Og's were the dominant team with Ronan and Sean in midfield.  Andrew, Darragh Jack and Thomas were our forwards with Brendan, Ciara, Cian and Diarmaid protecting Niall in nets. The Og's also were given an extra player (Shea) from the moneyglass ranks. During the second quarter moneyglass had their best spell when they got several goals although the Og's responded with several goals and points of their own. At half time the players were taken into the changing rooms to cool down and to let them know if they didn't get closer to their opponents there was a chance moneyglass could get on top in this game and indeed at one stage of the second half they were ahead by 2 points. In fairness to our panel this got our players motivated again and at the final whistle the Og's had out scored our opponents 17 scores to 9.

On Tuesday evening the Og's played the rescheduled visit to Latharna Og and the sunshine had been replaced by our usual summer weather of mist and rain. With Ronan away on holiday and several OLQoP players taking part in their school show this was a totally different squad from Saturday. The Og's lined out with Niall in nets, Brendan, Gerard and Shane in defence, Andrew, Darragh and Sean in midfield with Ciara, David and Oisin in our forward positions. Sean in particular was bossing midfield and got some great scores from distance. This give Andrew and Darragh the confidence to run at their markers. Niall was a spectator at times in nets as Brendan, Gerard and Shane were sweeping up the loose ball. David who had put a shift in replaced Niall in nets and Niall took his opportunity by getting a several scores. At the final whistle the Og's had recorded another victory Brid Og 6-6 Latharna Og 1-1.

The Og's next game was against Tir Na Nog and this was a double header with U12s and U14s both fielding. As both sides U12s had played in football tournaments earlier during the day the later throw in times of 6 and 7pm were agreed by both sets of mentors. In awful weather conditions the U12s played first and dominated the game from the start. Sean and Connla were excellent in midfield and they must have been feeding off the confidence from being picked for the Belfast Schools team against their Dublin counterparts at Casement the day before. Andrew, David and Jack got a lot of scores between them and Brendan, Ciara, Niall and Shane were strong at the back. At the final whistle the U12s had recorded their sixth victory.
