U12 South Antrim League v Rossa

Venue : Musgrave

Date: 11th August 2014

Brid Og's final league match was a home game against Rossa and in a twist of fate, it was "winner takes it all" as our superior goal difference before the game meant any type of victory for the Og's would have clinched their first South Antrim title.

Unfortunately for the Og's they were up against a classy Rossa team and although we started well and had several chances we could not get the all important first score. This went to the Shaw's Road side and the goal was quickly followed by a point. The Og's heads seemed to drop and instead of pushing on they give their opponents too much respect and Rossa got several more scores, although, our backs Brendan, Fintan,Gerard, JP Paudraig and Shane and Joe in nets at times pulled off some brilliant blocking and hooking and goal mouth clearances and showed why they had conceded the least amount of scores in the league up until this match.

In the second half our midfield started to get some success and both Connla and Sean put  in a shift and put their opponents under sustained pressure. This give our forwards Adam, Andrew, Daire, Dylan, Jack C, Jack D, Luke, Niall, Pearse and Ronan the opportunity to get some scores and although we did manage a goal (Andrew) and 3 points (Connla (2) , Ronan) Rossa won the game comfortably and were crowned U12 South Antrim League winners for 2014. Congratulations to Paddy and the Rossa squad on their victory.

I would like to thank Oliver for refereeing the game this evening and all our home games during this league campaign. Thanks to John D, John R and Gerard for their help during all our games. Thanks again to our parental and family support which pushed our players on during this campaign. Finally well done to our players who put us into a position where any type of victory would have given us the league. Unfortunately the league is now over but we are now preparing for the Nipper Quinn Championship and hopefully our performances during the league will merit us entry into the A section this year.

U12 South Antrim League v Sarsfields

Venue: Musgrave

Date: 4th August 2014

Our U12 hurlers continued their fine form in the South Antrim League with a high scoring 6:9 to 0:0 victory against a young Sarsfields side. Connla got the majority of the scores but it was great to see Dylan, Jack D and Pearse getting scores as well. As we had 16 players we had 4 substitutes so the players positions were constantly being rotated to give all the players adequate game time and it was also very reassuring that even with all the changes including the whole back lines including the keeper we were still able to record our second clean sheet of the league campaign. Special mention to Adam who played in his U12 league game and to a returning Ronan who played as if he hadn't been away.

Thanks to Oliver for refereeing the game and to John D and Gerard for helping with the team selection and changes. Thanks to our players parents who hopefully enjoyed the game in perfect hurling conditions and finally well done to the Og's who continued our winning run in both league and challenge games

South Antrim U12 Hurling League v Saint Paul's

Venue : Musgrave

Date: 28th July 2014

Brid Og continued their U12 league campaign with a re-arranged game against Saint Pauls as we were due to play each other earlier in the season.

In fairness we played at times like a team who hadn't trained in several weeks and our link up play was disjointed at times. Saint Pauls had several chances early in the game to get a few major scores but for some heroics at the back  from Brendan, Gerard, Jack C, JP, Paudraig and Goal keeper Joe.

This kick started the Og's into action and they started to get some points on the board from Sean and Connla and goals from Sean and Jack D to take a half time lead of 2:3 to 0:2.

The second half was similar to the first however we started to get more shots on target and we went on a goal frenzy scoring 7 goals in quick succession with Sean (1), Jack D (2), Andrew (2), Brendan (1) and Dylan (1) getting our major scores and Connla completed our scoring with a point from distance. Although Daire and Pearse did not get on the score sheet they contributed to the teams performance and victory. Also it must be mentioned that Saint Paul's played to the end and were rewarded with an additional 2 goals and a point themselves so the final score was Brid Og 9:4 Saint Pauls 2:3.

Thanks to Oliver for refereeing the game and to Gerard for helping with the team selection. Thanks to our parents for their support from the side line as I am sure this helped in the early stages of the game when we were under sustained pressure from our opponents. Finally well played to our players who hurled brilliantly to keep our winning run in the league going. It must also be  mentioned that the team was depleted this evening with several players away on holiday so the size of the victory must be commended.
