U12 Hurling Blitz

14/02/2016Posted by Darren Hamill

U12 Saint Gall's Blitz
Venue: Dunville Park
Date: 14th February 2016

Brid Og's U12's took part in a blitz organised by Saint Gall's with St Paul's also competing with an A and B team.

The games were played at 9 a side and 10 minutes each way. The level of hurling was off the highest quality and it was great to see the skills of hooking and blocking performed during the games. Unfortunately during some of the games are players  ,Conlan, Conor, Niall, Thomas and Zack, took knocks and we were only able to field 8 players in our final game against St Paul's B

The team produced some great scores today with Fintan and Niall taking their scores from distance. Eoghan scored a great goal from a poc out from our keeper and Pearse scored a great point from a side line cut. Credit must also go to Conlan, Jack and Thomas who performed brilliantly in nets. Conlan Owen and Zack were solid in their defensive positions and Conor and Daniel helped out in all different positions through out the games. Special mention for Aidan who played in his U12 game today. I hope he enjoyed it.

Thanks to Dave for organising this blitz today and we are due to play in a similar blitz in a couple of weeks time. Thanks to Ciaran, Gavin and John for helping with the squad and thanks to our players parents and family for travelling especially those parents who had already attended a football blitz. Finally well done to our players who put in a shift today. To those kids who took knocks I hope they will get better soon.  With a lot of players still to come into this squad we should have a very successful year at U12 level

Ulster Provincial Tournament

U12 Ulster Provincial Blitz

Venue: Magherafelt

Date: 9th January 2016

Brid Og's U12s started the 2016 season with the Ulster Provincial blitz played at the Meadowbank Arena in Magherafelt.

There was a real Ulster feel to the blitz as our opponents on the day were Tyrone side Saint Enda's Omagh, Belnaleck from Fermanagh, Antrim side Loch Mor dal gCais , Dunloe from Donegal and as Ardoyne did not field we were able to fit in a game against Derry City side Na Magha.

The games were 9 a side, played under full rules with only goals counting.  As the sliotar is in play at all times this allowed for quick / fast hurling . The Og's got off to a flyer with a high scoring victory against Omagh. In the second game against Belnaleck it was agreed by both teams to field 11 players and although this give all our players game time the  space for quality hurling was limited but the Og's did manage to scrape a 2-0 victory. Our third game was against fellow county Antrim side Loch Mor. These games are normally tight affairs and some late scores give us our third victory on the day. Our fourth game was against Na Magha from Derry. This was a cracking game against 2 evenly matched teams and had everything including 2 missed penalties by Pearse!!! The Og's started slowly in this game and we're 2-0 down however they clicked into action and got 3 goals of their own however a late Na Magha score resulted in a 3-3 draw which was probably a fair result as both teams came off the pitch happy with their performances. Our final game was against Donegal side Dunloe who had travelled over 2 hours to get to the venue. Dunloe only had 8 players so we had 3 subs in this game. The Og's again dominated the match although they had to come behind when our opponents took an early lead but at the final whistle the Og's had recorded a fine record of 4 wins and a draw.

I would like to thank Kevin for organising this well run blitz. Thanks to Frank for helping with the drills  before the games and the team as well. Thanks to our parental support who travelled to Magherafelt today and I hope they can see the improvements within the team. Finally  well done to the players who hurled brilliantly today. All the players positions were rotated and it is great to see how well the players adapted to the different roles they were given. The Og's also had a lot of scorers on the day including some great strikes from midfield but special mention has to go to Jaime who returned as top scorer for the team. It must also be remembered that today's team was young and included U10s and with several of our squad absent as well, hopefully 2016 is going to be a successful year for the Og's.

U11 Challenge v Creggan

07/11/2015Posted by Darren Hamill

U11 challenge game v Kickhams Creggan

Venue: Musgrave Park

Date: 7th November 2015

In preparation for next years U12 campaign Brid Og's U11s took part in a challenge game v Kickhams Creggan at Musgrave Park. The game was full rules and played over 3 X 20 minute thirds .

With the conditions very soggy underfoot it was great to see the wide variety of skills performed by both teams with a slippery sliotar and there was great link up play between the team which resulted in some excellent scoring.

Brid Og today fielded 19 players and the team was a mixture of seasoned U12s who played in the league and championship games this season and those younger players who are moving into U12s next year. These are great numbers and hopefully we can build on today's performance for next years campaign

I would like to thank Michael and Creggan for travelling to Musgrave day. Thanks to Gavin and John for helping with the team today and it was great to see even with all the positional changes from the sidelines we were always competitive in this game and recorded a fine victory against a skilful Creggan side. Thanks to our parental support and  I hope they see the potential of this young hurling team. Finally well done to the players and good luck to all our P7s who are taking part in transfer tests today and in the future
