Match Reports for the P3 / P4 Blitz – Tir Na nOg – May 14th 2001

Reporter: CIARA HAMILL (Éire Óg)

Eire Og

Creggan Kickhams

Saint Josephs Glenavy

All Saints Ballymena

Saint Endas

The young Ogs took part in the P3/P4 North Antrim blitz at Tir Na Nogs pitch in Randalstown. In awful weather conditions all the young Ogs give great performances. The hosts Tir Na Nog could not field a team so the Ogs first match involved splitting the players into two teams and this became a useful warm up exercise.

Match No 1

Eire Og 1 Saint Josephs Glenavy 1

This was a tight game with great skill shown by both teams. The highlight of this match was young Daniels individual goal where he received the ball in his own half and blasted the ball into the Glenavy net. Mention must all be made of the amount of saves made by young Carla in nets.

Match No 2

Eire Og 1 All Saints Ballymena 2

All Saints had the early pressure which resulted in 2 goals being scored. A foot injury forced Daniel to go into nets. With his longer puck outs the midfield and forwards started to have more success resulting in a great score from Pearce Short.

Match No 3

Eire Og 0 Saint Endas 2: 1

Due to the large amount of Saint Endas players ( 15 in total) the Eire Og numbers were increased using some of Saint Endas subs. At times this was confusing for both sets of players. St Endas had much of the ball but there was some defending by Alex, Gerard and Pearse . Saint Endas did score 2 goals (one was kicked into the goal causing some confusion!) and one great point.

Match No 4

Eire Og 0 Creggan Kickhams 1

The young Ogs raised themselves again for their final game. Young Carla who had shown some great performances particularly when in nets decided not to play in this game and with the size of the Creggan players I am not surprised. Again in this match there were some great displays in defence by Shea and Odhran and in attack with Alex ,Gerard and young Joseph who all ran constantly to get he ball. Both midfielders Daniel and Pearce covered large areas of the pitch and both put in a large amount of blocks and tackles. Pearce took a knock to the leg late in he game but bravely played on. Also it must be mentioned that young Pearse did some remarkable saves but was unfortunate when Creggan scored with the last puck of the game. It was a great day out for all the young players from all the teams involved.

Speacial mention and thanks must also go to Ciara Hamill Under 10 hurler. Who refereed for Eire Og in all the matches. She done the job with great professionalism and showed her authority where it was needed. The main organiser Thomas suggested that she could referee any of their matches.

The young Ogs are

Unfortunately we do not possess any photographs of the squad from the blitz (the photographer was sheltering from the heavy rain in her Dad’s car – we shall not name and shame her this time however J).

If anyone has photographs then please forward them to me and I will get them onto the website.
