South Antrim P6 Go Games

Venue Saint John's indoor hall

Date:16th November 2013

Brid Og's P6 hurlers fielded in the third week-end of South Antrim Go Games at Saint John's indoor hall. The Og's were due to play Rossa , Lamh dhearg and Carryduff but unfortunately the latter couldn't field so Lamh dhearg fielded 2 teams.

The Og's first game was against Rossa and young Zack settled the nerves when he added to his earlier tally of goals at the P4 games with a powerful poc of the sliotar from his defensive possession. There was also enough time for Niall to add 2 goals to our total before the referee blew his whistle. Also well done to Fintan who volunteered to play for our opponents during this game.

Our second game was against Lamh dhearg A and again the Og's took an early lead with a powerfully hit free from Gerard. Both Niall and Pearse also got goals and Lamh dhearg got a goal themselves to make the final score 3:1 to the Og's.

Our final game was against Lamh dhearg B team. This game was the Niall D show as he got 4 of our goals with Pearse and Zack getting our 5th and 6th goals. Credit to our opponents as they scored two goals of their own.

Again this young side showed that they can cope with this level of hurling and came away with 3 great victories to remain unbeaten. It was great that we were able to field 10 players today but this resulted in a lot of rotation of positions throughout the games and credit to the players they adapted brilliantly to this. Roll on the next series of games in a couple of weeks and thanks to Fintan, Gerard, Niall and Pearse for playing for Rossa during their games.

P6 Go Games

Venue: Saint John's Indoor Hall

Date 2nd November 2013

Brid Og's P6 hurlers competed in the second weekend of games at Saint John's indoor hall. The Og's were scheduled to play Lamh dhearg, Sarsfields and Rossa and like the first week we were able to fit in a fourth game against Ardoyne.

Our first game was against Lamh dhearg and it was great to see Carla's return to competitive hurling being rewarded with a goal although our opponents were able to score an equaliser late in the game to make the final score 1:1.

By the second game against Sarsfields our numbers had risen to 9 players so we had 3 substitutes during the game. The Paddies raced to a 3:1 lead with Zack getting our goal. Credit to the team they fought for sliotar all over the pitch and their efforts were rewarded with 2 late goals from Niall and Carla to equalise the game. Near the end Caolan and Garrett had several chances to win the game but unfortunately this game ended in a 3-3 draw.

Our third game was against Rossa and both teams agreed to field 7 players instead of 6. This reduced the space for clean possession of the sliotar but  Pearse was able to get the two goals to win this game. There was also some great blocking from Adam, Conlan and David during this game to make sure the team kept a clean sheet.

After all the games Ardoyne agreed to play us. Unfortunately Garrett had to leave and our numbers were reduced to 8. This game was very physical with both teams putting in challenges all over the pitch. Our opponents took an early lead when they got the ball past Carla in nets. After this the Og's had several chances but found the Ardoyne keeper in excellent form. Just when we thought our unbeaten run in these go games was going to end Pearse converted a free and got a second goal within seconds of the restart. There was also enough time for Zack to get another couple of goals before the final whistle although the score line flattered us a bit as Ardoyne had played brilliantly too in this game.

I would like to thank Kieran for organising these games which had been great for giving the kids a focus during this time of the year.  Thanks to Gavin, John and Tara for helping with the team and to our parents and families for their continued support. Finally a big thanks to the players who were unbeaten on the day and played some excellent hurling.

Brid Og Squad: Adam, Caolan, Carla, Conlon, David, Garrett, Niall, Pearse, Zack

Camogie Friendlies

30/10/2013Posted by Tara Baird

Eire Og camogs played several friendly matches against Lamh Dhearg on Tuesday 29th October. The girls lined out in sixes for a 5 min ground rules match, against their slightly bigger competitors from Lamb Dherg.

Aoife Rice, Aoife Duffy, Melissa, Elena, Grace and Emma lined out first and played very well but unfortunately they were beaten by their older counterparts. Special mention for Aoife R and Aoife D, Melissa and Grace who have never played in a competitive match before. Well done girls.

Alannah, Carla, Niamh, Sophia, Ciara, were helped out by Niall and Conlan who took turns to be the sixth member.  The Ogs demonstrated their fiery spirit, skills and determination and won all their matches easily 4 - 0,  4- 2, 5 - 1.  Niamh, Alannah, Carla, Sophia, Ciara and Niall all contributed to the scorecard.

I would like to say a massive thanks to Linda, Fionnula and all the Lamb Dherg girls for agreeing to play with us. To Damian, the Vice Prinicpal at St Luke's PS and David Mc Gowan for arranging the hall for the evening. To all those on the sidelines for their support and to those who have since sent messages of encouragement.

Biggest thanks to all the girls who played tremendously and with such enthusiasm, you are inspiring and we are all so proud of you. Here's to many more triumphs in the future.

Watch the website for info on upcoming 'mum and me' sessions and matches with Gort na Mona and Rossa.
