P6 County Down Indoor Games

Venue: Eddie Irvine Centre

Date: 2nd February 2014

It was our P6 hurlers turn at the Eddie Irvine Centre in Bangor and we were able to field two teams in the seaside venue. Our 'A' teams opponents on the day were Davitt's, Ardoyne and O'Donnell's as Newry Shamrock's and Armagh Cuchullian's were unable to field  but we were able to fit a rearranged fixture against Rossa.

At the end of the 4 games our team had retained their unbeaten record that dates back to the South Antrim games at Saint John's last Autumn with 3 wins and a high scoring 3-3 draw against O'Donnell's. The hurling on show today was of the highest standard and it must be remembered that the majority of today's team were P5's and a P4. All the players got goals today in a great team performance and we look forward to the development to this young team over the next couple of months. Indeed this team now have a crowded programme of fixtures with games in the Pat Rice memorial tournament and North Antrim leagues to look forward to.

Brid Og's B team had tough matches against B teams from Bredagh, Portaferry and Keady, which ended in defeat. They did record a victory over Lamh Dhearg B to round off the games. There were just enough kids present today to field 2 teams and considering Liam played every match for the B team against players 3 years older than him, the players still performed admirably.

Thanks

I would like to thank Micky for organising these games which are excellent for the continued development of our teams. Thanks to our players parents and family for travelling to the venue and their vocal support from the sidelines. A final big thank you to the players who today played hurling the proper way and continued their unbeaten run.

P6 County Down Games

Venue: Eddie Irvine Centre

Date: 12th January 2014

It was Brid Og's P6 hurlers turn at the County Down games and unfortunately we only had enough players to field 1 team instead of the planned 2 teams. In fact one of our players Shane had only returned from his school's trip to the slopes last night.

We were due to play Saint Paul's Antrim, Liatrom, Keady, Ballygalget, and Ballycran  but unfortunately Ballycran failed to field and Ballygalget were asked to field in another group by the organisers. To fill the void Belfast side O'Donnell's were asked to fill our groups fixture list.

The games were all 6 minutes long and full rules. Over the four games all the players positions were rotated with Shane, Pearse, Niall Gerard and Niamh getting our goals. Gerard's goal came from a clearance whilst doing nets which was allowed however Conlan's strike from the poc out wasn't allowed due to the tournaments rule. Niall was on fire today and got the majority of the teams scores however it must be mentioned that all our players especially Conlan and Gerard played brilliantly in their defensive roles. At the end of the 4 games the Og's had recorded victories over Saint Paul's, Liatrom, and O'D's. The Keady game was a cracker with both sides having the lead before the Og's got a late strike to equalise in the game 2-2. To be honest the draw was probably the correct result but both teams had chances to win the game. There was also enough time at the end to fit in a second game against Saint Paul's. Unfortunately Niamh had taken a knock to the wrist and was unable to continue in this game but we did get a replacement from the Saint Paul's ranks. This game lasted longer approx 10 minutes and the Og's came away with another victory in a high scoring contest.

Thanks

I would like to thank Micky for organizing these games. They will be instrumental in the development of our juvenile teams but it would be great to be able to field a second team as well. Thanks to Tara and John D for their help with the team and thanks to our parents and families for travelling. Finally well done to our players were played brilliantly today. Also it's now time to put the X Boxes and playstations down and start lifting the sliotar with the hurl.

P6 South Antrim Go Games

Date:30th November 2013

Venue: Saint John's Indoor Hall

Brid Og's U10 (P6) hurlers finished off the 2013 season in fine form with 3 great wins against Ardoyne, Rossa and Sarsfields and a 2-2 draw against the Davitts. The team played brilliantly and all the players got scores with Fintan scoring 2 of them with his feet! This meant that our P6's remained unbeaten over the 4 weekends of games.

The 2013 season has been a long but rewarding one with blitzes being played in North, South and South West Antrim, North Antrim Indoor League, County Down Leagues, Falls Park Blitzes and various tournaments during the year. It has been great to see the improvement the team has made over the year and this was highlighted when the team reversed the previous form by beating Bredagh and Keady in the Falls Park games and St Gall's tournament.

I would like to thank our players parents for their continued support from the sidelines. Thanks to Ciaran , Frank, Gavin, John and Tara for their help during the year. To the U10s who are now moving on to our U12 panel I wish them the best of luck and I would also like to thank those U8s who helped make our numbers up in the various blitzes this year.

Brid Og; Conlan, David, Fintan, Niall, Pearse, Shane, Sophia
