P6 Go Games

13/02/2016Posted by Gavin Kane

Venue: All Saints Youth Centre

Event: P5/6 Games

This was the second week of the P5/6 games. The schedule showed strong opposition on paper; Rossa, Carryduff and Lamh Dhearg. These teams had proven to be tough opposition in the past and this would provide for high quality games. Our first game was against Carryduff. The game got off to a fast  start. It didn’t take the Brid Og team long to find their stride and before long the team had registered a score, this relaxed the squad and the play started to flow. Whist the Carryduff team played brilliantly they could not defend against a strong Brid Og attack.

Our next game saw the team face Lamh Dhearg, again this game was of high quality, with the teams pretty evenly matched in terms of skill and pace. The game was nip and tuck however Brid Og managed to take the lead and held on for a one point victory.

In the final game we faced Rossa. This was perhaps the best game of the set and the Rossa keeper provided a magnificent show, as he continually repelled our attack. Once a  Brid Og score had been registered the team found their groove and showed some great skill in the use of their short game.

The team performed brilliantly today and each member shone in their own way. Connor made some outstanding saves and kindly volunteered to play in goals twice. Connor Mc played with his usual enthusiasm and discipline. James B provided a strong defence and showed of some great natural hurling skills. James got a rare chance to play up front and showed that he is a great all-rounder with a few great scores. Oisin played with his usual enthusiasm and energy and showed no fear. Aidan showed just how much his skills have come on in a few short weeks and enjoyed marking a few of his class mates. Zack put in a great shift in midfield and pummelled the goalkeeper from that area (if points had have been allowed it would have a been a high scoring session), Donnacha played brilliantly in all positions and showed great commitment at all times.

Thanks to the parents and players for turning out and thanks to Darren for helping with the team. Another great performance by a great team.

P6 Go Games

Date: 31/01/16

Venue: All Saints Youth Centre

Event: P6 Games

It was the turn of the Brid Og P6 team to get some game time. St Galls, St Theresa and O’Donnells were also in attendance. As the throw in time approached our numbers swelled to 15. It was fantastic to see so many kids in attendance, all of whom were keen to participate. With the maximum squad size restricted to 8 it was decided to split the group into two teams, in order to ensure that all kids got equal game time. Games were full rules and were of 8 minutes duration.

Our first game was against O’Donnells. The O’Donnells team were skilful and physical but it did not take the Brid Og team long to find their stride and the scores quickly started to rack up. The game was end to end and fast paced. Our defensive lines remained stong throughout and Brid Og came away with a victory.

The team was rotated and our second group of players faced St Theresa’s. This was a great game with great skills on show by both teams. Again the game was fast paced throughout and again Brid Og came away with a win.

The final game saw our team face St Galls. This was the best and most challenging game of the day. St Galls provided strong opposition and it took the Brid Og team a few minutes to register a score but once this was achieved the team settled and dominated the game. This was especially impressive given that the complete team was rotated in the short space of time to ensure that everyone got time on the field.

This group of keen and skilful players deserved to come away with a clean sheet.  It was great to see all players naturally attempting to catch the ball and this provided a distinct advantage in all games.

Thanks to all the players and parents and thanks to Darren for helping on the day.

Team: Oisin, Aidan, Jack, Zack, Butros, Donnacha, Connor, James K, James S, James McC, Connor, Dan, Zack, Tethcin, James

N Antrim League

23/01/2016Posted by Ciaran Grant

The U10s played in Division 2 of the N Antrim league on Sunday in Dungannon. After a strong start, including a great comeback victory over the hosts, it all came down to the last game against Bredagh, with the winners qualifying for the final. Unfortunately, the game ended in defeat, but over the 2 weekends the boys played very well and faced some of the biggest names in Ulster hurling.
