1940 saw promotion to the Senior Football League for the first time. Éire Óg was only beaten by a single point in the first game by then county Champions , Gael Uladh. In 1947 Éire Óg won the Junior Football League again, beating Rock in the league decider.
In 1948 Éire Óg won their only Senior Football Championship title to date. It was well deserved. After beating Ardoyne and Dunloy quite easily, Éire Óg knocked out the holders, O’Connell’s, in the semi-final winning quite comfortably 1-7 to 1-3, despite a late comeback by O’Connell’s. The winning Ógs team was a very young team - only five of them being over 21 years of age.
1948 Senior Football Champions
The final was played on the 9th August 1948 against the favourites St John’s . It was tense, fierce match, with the Ógs’ fitness, speed and teamwork the decisive factors. At the interval Éire Óg trailed by 1-02 to 0-01, but they turned the game around before coming out victorious on a scoreline of Éire Óg 2-2 v St Johns 1-4.
The following year, Éire Óg beat St John’s in the 1949 South Antrim Junior Hurling Championship Final but then went down to Granuaille in the All County final.
